“When I bought my terraced Victorian house 25yrs ago, I had always intended to replace the railings that had been cut down many years before to aid the war effort.
I researched for ages, trying to find photographic evidence of my street, but sadly I couldn’t find any. I then decided to research what similar properties of the period had. I also found the stubs of the original gate posts buried in the wall and some remnants of the backstay stubs, I was then able to use these clues to come up with a design similar to the originals. Next was to find how to get them manufactured, I had lots of people suggesting “I know someone who can make them” but they were almost always crude lightweight wrought iron that looked completely out of character, and cast iron was just way too expensive.
I was getting frustrated until I came across Dyffryn Designs on Instagram, and after looking at the photos realised that this guy understood precisely what I was after. I arranged a visit to talk through my project with Kelvin. Drawing on his experience helped enormously in finalising a design that is spot-on for the period and to help me navigate the planning application (even though I was just reinstating the original railings!).

I was inspired by one of our neighbours who recently had their gates designed and made by Kelvin.
After looking up his details on the website, I made contact with him to set about having our own automated double gates and two pedestrian access gates designed and made.
Kelvin was very reassuring and knowledgeable, very professional with plenty of experience and expertise to share. He offered us many options and alternatives, so that all possible eventualities were catered for. He ensured no stone was left unturned.
